Heroes Part III

My third hero is another outstanding athlete and human being; Terry Fox. Most of you probably know he is the Canadian who had osteogenic sarcoma which is a type of bone cancer. It was so bad he had to have his leg amputated when he was my age, 18. But he didn't just sit at home and contemplate life in death and just hope that he got better. Instead he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. Unfortunately the cancer spread to his lungs and he could not continue his 'Marathon of Hope'. He did however still manage to run 5 373 km.
Terry Fox is a pretty "generic" choice as a hero but I really do appreciate his courage and endurance to run with only one leg. I know that we can complain so much about a hang nail or blister which really is small compared to losing a limb. Terry had the drive to make a difference, and what a difference he has.
